12 Days of Christmas Crafts - Day 6 - My 1929 Charmer

Hi everyone! Welcome to day six of the 12 Days of Christmas Crafts here at The Kurtz Corner! Has everyone enjoy the last five guest bloggers?? I know I have! Today we welcome Cathy from My 1929 Charmer who will be showing us how to make a super cute holiday lamp!

Smiles Everyone! My name is Cathy from My 1929 Charmer and I'm just tickled pink to be Christmas guest blogging while Audra is busy packing tons of boxes before they move in to their FIRST home. How exciting!
No this isn't me!
I don't have quite so much hair. It's our pawfect family member Laid Back Bo - he looks better then any picture I could find of myself!
I'm a Midwest girl - one who actually loves winter. This morning hubs and I hiked 5 miles. I like to consider myself a Master of all trades and a jack of none! I'm lucky enough to have been able to take an early retirement. I love it - having time to do all my passions. When I worked I used to feel like I had enough money and no time. Now I have all the time and not necessarily the money. But no fears - my creative juices keep my projects moving forward on a budget, which to me is more fun.
I love finding different ways to use holiday sweaters.
The holiday colors/patterns are endless, and easy to find.
As I started to "holidize" my buffet I focused my attention on my lamp...
Needs glamorizing!
I found two holiday sweaters at Goodwill.
My walls are dark and the winter white sweater is the perfect color to cover my lampshade, it provides needed texture.
Here's how I did it.
1) Remove shade from lamp.
2) Open up the sweater from the bottom with your hands (imagine your putting on panty hose).
3. Slip the sweater down the shade until the sweaters bottom ribbing is even with the bottom of the lamp shade.

4) You'll can see the top of the sweater (sleeve) is hanging down in side the middle of the lamp.
5) Cut off the top of the sweater leaving about 1 1/4" length, enough to wrap over the top rim of the lamp.
6) Use your glue gun to secure to the rim.
Love the texture - but needs some bling!!
I made several different kind of flowers, using the red holiday sweater, felt and wool plaid.

Here's how I made some of the flowers.
The red and white rose..
rose flower
1) Using a bowl or glass trace different sized circles on felt. For the inside red rose I used a 3 1/2" inch, and for the white used a 4 1/2" circle, cut out.
2) Using a scissor just start cutting the circle inward. Doesn't need to be perfect, in fact looks better if it isn't.
3) Start rolling with the outside cut end, and just keep rolling around and around, I secured with hot glue gun or you can sew. When I finished rolling the red, I added the white and rolled around the red.
4) This is very easy to do. Then I free handed 2 leaves and hot glued to underside of the rose.
The Holiday Sweater Flower (bottom flower)...

1) I used the flower pin tutorial from Jones Design Company. The tutorial is for a smaller flower, but I wanted a larger flower, I increased the templates size by 20%. Instead of using felt, I used my red holiday sweater. I cut off one sleeve from the sweater.
2) Using the petal template I cut 6 flowers from the sweaters solid red section - these are for the outer petals.
3) Using the same template, cut 2 flowers from the patterned section of the red sweater - these were used for the flowers center.
4) Follow the tutorial.
The remaining 3 flowers I found by searching Google "felt holiday flowers, blog", there are tons out there.
Pick the ones you like.
My lamp is now dressed for the Holidays!

I would love it if you stopped by my blog and see what else I've been up to.
Happy Holidays!!!!

  2. I was a HIV-AIDS patient and I got it from cheating on my wife. It was sort of a payback but a week later I was told by a friend that the person who I cheated with had the HIV-AIDS virus and did not tell me. I was so stupid by not using a condom I thought since he was an old school friend he was trustworthy. But I was wrong. I cried and cried. Two days later, I got a phone call from my friend and he told me about a person who is known by another friend, who can help me. I could not let my wife know what I was going through. I finally got his email address: and I emailed this man my story and he replied me immediately saying i should be calm and told me that everything will be OK. I could not come to terms with what I was hearing but then I concluded it did not matter because I was so broken I just needed help. I was going out of my mind literally. I was confused with what he was telling me, but I listened. He told me about some materials i need to buy that he needed to cast the spell and I said OK. I bought the materials to him, I sent down my picture to him and my positive result sheet and he replied me that i am going to be negative under 3days. I message Him every 2hours for 2day and I knew he thought that I was crazy but I did care I needed a shoulder. Behold, the third day he messaged me i should go for a test that i will be negative. My marriage could be broken because of a stupid mistake and my life was on the line. I remembered when I was going to get the results of my re-test I called him up again and told him that I was going to get my results today and his reply was “so" and that everything will be as he explained. I knew then that he was getting tired of me calling him, maybe I was wrong. Well I got my results and the first person I called was him - again. As he said hello I started to cry and cry. I could not believe it. I was given a second chance in life. This man is a great spiritual HIV/AIDS healer, his healing spell on aids healing is very powerful .please brothers and sister, contact Dr Ose
